Carry a smartphone to get the latest weather and delay information and check alternative flights. Since delays affect aircraft inbound to your airport as well as departures, even when flying restrictions are lifted, your plane may not be available. Search for another flight or a different routing to speed you to your destination or book a hotel where you are.
Do not check luggage. You have much more flexibility if you keep your luggage with you. A lightweight, rolling carry-on and a laptop backpack make long walks easier. Wear good walking shoes.
Get exercise. During weather delays, you will be spending hours sitting in planes and at gates. If you know you'll be in the airport for more than an hour, investigate some of the many airport clubs and health spas or work out for free by taking a brisk 30- or 45-minute walk around the airport.
Buy a day pass to an airport lounge. There are both airline and independent lounges and business facilities at many major airports. You can usually find desk space, power outlets, and Wi-Fi at lounges.
Visit a food court and take time to get a healthy nutritious meal. Remember to drink plenty of water. Don't settle for quick junk food near the gate. Flight delays can be tiring and stressful; don't compound the problem by mistreating your body.
