United Airlines Rules for Bringing Food Onboard

United Airlines, along with most American carriers, charges for meals and snacks onboard domestic flights. Instead of eating the airline's limited menu that come at steep prices, many passengers take advantage of United's lenient policies on bringing your own food onboard.
  1. Storage

    • Food and beverages to be consumed on the flight must adhere to the same restrictions as the rest of your carry-ons. The food you bring should fit in the overhead bin or below the seat in front of you. Storing food in the seat pocket in front of you is not allowed.

    Beverages

    • Purchase beverages in the terminal, after clearing TSA security. All beverages purchased in the boarding area are allowed on flights.

    Amount

    • Food and beverages brought to be consumed on the aircraft are not counted toward your carry-on limit. These are in excess to the one carry-on and one personal item limit.

    Peanuts and Allergens

    • Although the airline does not restrict passengers from bringing peanuts or other foods for which many people have severe allergies, it does ask passengers to be sensitive to other passengers when choosing foods to bring onboard.
