Many airlines give discounts off full-fare economy tickets for military passengers. Full-fare tickets are always more expensive than other discounted fares that airlines routinely offer. Look for non-military discounted tickets, too. Sometimes other discounts may offer lower prices than the military discount on full-fare tickets.
If your travel plans are flexible, investigate the Space Available Travel program which allows military members, retirees and family members to travel on any aircraft owned by the Department of Defense once it accommodates all of the space-required passengers.
