MWR provides information on area sporting events, concerts and amusement parks and other interesting local attractions that offer special deals to military members. Purchase tickets directly from MWR and skip long lines at the ticket booth. Large military installations, such as Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas, provide regularly updated websites that carry the latest information on local events and ticket prices.
The Information, Tickets and Travel (ITT) office, part of MWR, primarily serves Navy and Marine members and their families. The Army's counterpart to ITT is the Information, Tickets and Reservation (ITR) office. Anyone holding a valid DOD identification card qualifies to purchase tickets through either the ITT or the ITR office. Like MWR, both ITT and ITR offices sell tickets to local and regional events and attractions. But there's a catch: Deeply discounted rates come on a space-available basis, usually during the off-season and on short notice. If you understand this, and are flexible about travel dates, AFVC vacations offer the opportunity to stay in exotic locations at a fraction of the regular cost.
Though the military discount often reflects a significant savings, it may not be the best price available. Senior discounts through organizations like AARP, discounts on admissions for state residents, or special sales may save you more money. Check before you purchase to make sure the military discount actually provides you the best price possible.
