Homeland Security Airline Regulations

Terrorism is growing as a concern in the eyes of the government and travelers alike, and the Department of Homeland Security's airline regulations are ever-changing. Before your next trip, it may be a good idea to brush up on these regulations.
  1. Liquids and Prohibited Items

    • Liquids are strictly monitored during air travel. All liquids kept in carry-on luggage must be in small, 3-ounce containers. Each passenger may carry a 1-quart bag to hold these containers.

Many items are prohibited on flights, such as certain sizes of common tools. This list changes frequently, and can be found on the Transportation Security Administration website.

    Checking in Luggage

    • Luggage cannot be checked in before the day of departure. Locking baggage is not recommended, as the TSA has to break the lock in order to gain access. Also remember to keep your name and address on the outside of your luggage.

    Different Airlines

    • Different airlines have different regulations regarding luggage. This information is usually accessible upon booking your flight. However, if you have trouble finding this information, contact your airline directly or check their website.
