Delta's Change Flight Policies

Passengers flying with Delta have several options when it comes to changing their flights. Delta offers both refundable and nonrefundable tickets at the time of purchase, so it is important to know the type of ticket you have before attempting to change your flight.
  1. Risk-Free Cancellation

    • As part of Delta's Best Fare Guarantee, passengers can get a refund for most eTickets purchased directly through Delta. Qualified eTickets can be canceled within one day of purchase for any reason for a full refund.

    Refundable Tickets

    • If you purchased a refundable ticket, you will be able to change your flight with Delta customer service at no charge, provided there are seats available for your new flight and all ticket rules are met. If you are not interested in rescheduling your travel and your itinerary qualifies for risk-free cancellation, you can cancel your itinerary and apply for and receive a full refund.

    Nonrefundable Tickets

    • If you cannot fly and did not purchase refundable tickets, Delta will hold your tickets for up to 12 months from the date of purchase. When you are ready to fly, contact Delta and they will apply the price of your purchased tickets minus the appropriate change fee to your new ticket fare.

You either have to pay the fare difference if the new fare is higher or be issued a Delta flight credit if the fare is lower. If you need to change your itinerary and have already started your travel, your ticket must be reissued and the remainder of travel completed within one year.

    Change Fees

    • Based on the type of ticket you purchased and fare rules, you may have to pay a service fee or fare difference if you wish to change your tickets. Currently, the change fee for travel within the United States is $150 per ticket.

For travel outside the United States, the fee is typically $250, but can change based on the type of ticket you originally purchased and the location you are flying to and from. Additional fees are applied for tickets originally purchased from external sites including a travel agency, online travel site or another airline.

    How to Make Changes

    • Tickets for travel on Delta, Delta Connection or Delta made directly through Delta can be made online at delta.com. For travel on Delta Airline partners or itineraries purchased through external sources, you need to contact Delta customer support directly.
