Many airlines, such as Delta, recommend that you arrive at the airport at least 75 minutes before departure for domestic flights and at least three hours before for international flights. This allows plenty of time for both security and check-in procedures, which may each have long lines.
Acceptable photo identification is required during check-in and security or you may be denied boarding. Such IDs include a U.S. passport or passport card, military I.D., state-issued driver's licenses or permanent resident card.
Coats and jackets must go through the X-ray machine unless packed in luggage. Do not wrap gifts and put acceptably-sized liquids in clear plastic bags per TSA rules. Be prepared to submit electronics such as laptops and camcorders for hand inspections.
