Airline Guidelines for International Travel

As with domestic flights, safety is the main concern for all international flights. Regardless of the airline, there are standard rules and regulations that you must follow if you are on an international flight.
  1. Rules

    • There are restrictions on liquid items.

The 3-1-1 rule is in effect at many international airports. Every liquid, gel or aerosol item must be 3 ounces or less; and every person is allowed one quart-sized clear plastic bag in which to place the items for inspection. If you plan on traveling with hand sanitizer on your airline, consider the rule before packing.

    Behavior

    • Bad behavior is not tolerated.

You are expected to refrain from disruptive behavior on any flight. Verbal or physical threats, intimidation or assault are not tolerated aboard the aircraft. If you cause such a disruption on an international flight, authorities can prosecute you upon landing.

    Considerations

    • Rules are enforced on international flights.

As of December 2009, the Transportation Security Administration has increased security on international flights that are landing in the United States. Some airlines require overhead baggage to remain stored while traveling; additionally, restrictions on electronic devices may be enforced.
