TSA Guidelines for Air Travel

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is a department of the U.S. Homeland Security. As of October 2010, the countrywide department consists of 50,000 security officers, inspectors, directors, air marshals and managers who work to protect America's transportation systems.
  1. Documents

    • All passengers are required to show a U.S. federal or state-issued photo I.D. containing their name, date of birth, gender, expiration date in a laminate sealed cover, in order to be allowed through the checkpoint and gain access to their flight.

    Prohibited Items

    • No sharp objects, fire arms or flammable materials should be carried on the flight as hand luggage. Work tools such as screwdrivers and wrenches are allowed to be carried on the flight but are restricted to less than seven inches in length.

    Liquid

    • A small amount of liquid or gels are accepted as flight carry ons. A 3.4 oz. bottle or less is allowed if it is placed in a one quart-sized, clear, plastic, zip-top bag. Only one bag per passenger is accepted and must be placed in the airport screening bin. Declare items in larger quantities such as baby milk or medicines which are allowed to be carried on in quantities exceeding 3.4 oz.
