How to Use an E Ticket for Air Travel

In the past, when you booked a flight, you had to wait for your tickets to arrive in the mail or wait on long check-in lines at the airport in order to get your tickets. Now, everything is done electronically. Just place your order online or over the phone and you're in the airline's system. Don't worry about the tickets----they are floating around in cyberspace somewhere, just waiting to be accessed. Now you can focus on more important things, like how to pack all of your clothes into one bag to avoid additional baggage fees.

Instructions

    • 1

Complete your airline ticket order and select "E-ticket" as the delivery option. You will be sent an email confirmation of your flight. Print a copy of your ticket information for safe keeping. Take note of the terminal and gate number.

    • 2

Go to a check-in kiosk when you arrive at the airport, which is located near the main ticket counter. You can also go to a customer service representative for processing, but you will be negating the time that is supposed to be saved by using an E-ticket. There are usually two separate lines for people who have E-tickets and those who have regular printed tickets.

Enter your confirmation number (or scan your E-Ticket if you were provided with a printed version that contains a barcode) and confirm your passenger information. Your boarding pass will print at the kiosk. You may also need to swipe the credit card that you used for your purchase to verify your identity.

Take your bags up to the express line for E-ticket passengers and pass them on to the attendant. She will confirm the bags with your flight information and identification and send you on your way. Continue on to the gate with your ID and boarding passes in hand.
