How to Compare Air Rates

When buying an airline ticket, there are several things to consider to get the best deal. It is important to compare different rates and factors to choose the best ticket.
  1. Ticket Price

    • The base price of the ticket is the most important factor to consider. Check all the airlines flying your desired route to see who has the lowest prices.

    Tax

    • Some ticket prices are quoted as the final price, while others will later add on additional taxes and fees. When getting a quote for a flight, be sure to be aware of these taxes and fees and factor them into your cost.

    Baggage

    • Many airlines charge for checked luggage and some even for carry-on luggage. Before booking a flight, determine how much luggage you will bring. Find the fees for this for each flight you are comparing and factor them into your ticket costs.

    Extras

    • Many flights include some extras such as pillow, blankets, movies, Internet access, snacks and drinks. If you desire any of these extras, determine if the ticket price includes them or not. If not, find the charge for these, if they are available, and add them to your ticket cost.

    Flight Duration

    • When comparing flights, be sure to look at the duration. One flight may be much cheaper than another, but include several stops and plane changes. Decide how important travel time is to you when determining your target prices.
