Airfare can be expensive, especially if you fly often. Because of this saving a few dollars here and there can add up. Finding the lowest price and comparing air fares between companies and agencies can often help you secure a lower-priced flight than if you simply book your flight with the first website or travel agency you contact.
Determine the departure and return days for your flight, and the cities you are traveling to and from.
Open your web browser and navigate to a travel site, such as Expedia, Travelocity, Priceline and Hotwire. If you are a student you can try out STA.com. STA, or Student Travel Association, provides discounted airfare for individuals still in school.
Search for flights on your specific days. After a moment a list of flights appears on your screen, with the cheapest on the top. Look at the smaller price above the large price. This is the final price after taxes.
Go to the other travel websites and look up the same flight information. You may find one site offers a fare that is slightly cheaper than the other site for a specific itinerary (although the prices are usually similar). Write down the final price, airline company and website you used after finding the cheapest price.
Navigate to the airline's site and look up the same flight day and location. Often the prices differ on this site (and can be both higher and lower).
Call your local travel agency and ask how much the flight costs and what the agency charges as a booking fee. Although travel agencies are usually more expensive, the company may have a promotion going on and end up saving you money.
