Founded in 1999, the carrier JetBlue Airways provides one-class service to more than 60 U.S. cities and international destinations that include Bermuda, Costa Rica, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic. JetBlue luggage requirements are valid on JetBlue-operated flights. These requirements do not apply to codeshare or inter-airline flights.
Your first checked bag on a JetBlue flight is free. The checked bag cannot exceed 62 inches (157.48 cm) in overall dimensions (length plus width plus height) and cannot exceed 50 lbs. (22.73 kilos). You cannot check boxes as baggage on international flights. If you wish to check additional bags, beyond your one free one, there is a charge of $30 for the second bag and $75 for the third bag, as of 2010.
If your bag is overweight or oversize it will be checked on a load-availability basis. The charge for a bag weighing 51 to 70 lbs. (31.82 kilos) is $50 and $100 for bags weighing 71 to 99 lbs. (45 kilos). Oversize bags 63 to 80 inches (203.2 centimeters) will be assessed a fee of $75, as of 2010. Bags larger than 80 inches are not permitted. You will be assessed a fee for each category that applies; that is, if your bag is overweight and oversize, the overweight fee plus the oversize fee will be assessed. Fees will be collected at the airport during your check-in.
You are allowed to bring on board one personal item, such as a briefcase, laptop or purse, plus a carry-on bag. Your personal item must be able to fit under the seat in front of you and must not be larger than 18 inches in length (45.72 cm) by 15 inches in width (38.1 cm) by 8 inches in height (20.32 cm). Your carry-on bag must not exceed 26 inches (66 cm) in length by 18 inches (45.72 cm) in width by 12 inches (30.48 cm) in height, if your flight is on a JetBlue Airbus A320 plane. If your flight is on a JetBlue EMBRAER 190 plane, the bag must not exceed 24 inches (60.96 cm) in length by 16 inches (40.64 cm) in width by 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height.
Items such as golfing, fishing and scuba diving equipment, ice skates, snowboards and tennis rackets as well as firearms and musical instruments can be checked free as the first free checked bag. These items must be suitably packed in a hard container designed to withstand handling. You must be at least 18 years of age to check a firearm. Firearms must be unloaded, have a Firearms Unloaded Declaration tag, be appropriately packed and the container locked with only you retaining the key or combination.
