Jet Blue Travel Requirements

To ensure passenger safety, consumer protection and smooth airport operations, the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration established guidelines that all airlines must follow. As a major passenger air carrier, JetBlue Airways sets its own travel requirements for security screening and accommodating infants, minors traveling without adults and disabled passengers requiring the assistance of pets. Requirements for passenger check-in and baggage claim are aimed at avoiding flight delays.
  1. Passenger Check-In

    • Passengers are advised to arrive at airports in ample time for departure, but will not be checked in more than four hours ahead of schedule. U.S. citizens over 18 must show a federal or state-issued photo ID, such as a passport, birth certificate bearing official seal or driver's license. Foreign passengers must show a passport or U.S. residency documents. Photocopied IDs are not accepted. Passengers arriving at check-in less than 60 minutes before departure will be turned away, and no passengers will be allowed to board the plane less than 20 minutes before takeoff.

    Baggage Check

    • Luggage must be checked in at least 60 minutes before departure and carry-on baggage at the gate 20 minutes prior. Federal regulations allow for random inspection of all baggage. Prohibited from baggage are chemicals, explosives, pesticides or poisons, oxygen tanks, radioactive matter, paints or tear gas.

    Children, the Disabled and Pets

    • Service pets may accompany passengers on flights.

Babies under 2 may travel in the lap of an adult. Toddlers over 2 may travel in a passenger seat or strapped into a secured child seat. Advance arrangements must be made with the airline for minors between ages 5 and 14 traveling without an adult. An adult leaving youngsters for departure must present identification, as should the person taking custody of them upon arrival. Animals trained to serve disabled passengers, such as seeing eye dogs, are allowed to travel in the cabin if professionally tagged and harnessed.
