Airline Rules on Jet Blue Regarding Pets on Board

Traveling with pets can be a bit stressful and there are a slew of rules that many travelers are not familiar with. JetBlue Airways allows small dogs and cats to be in the passenger cabin with their owners during flights, for a fee. The following rules regarding pets on JetBlue Airways are valid as of October 2010 and are subject to change at the airline's discretion.
  1. Pet Weight and Carrier Sizes

    • Only cats and dogs are permitted to travel in the passenger cabin on-board a JetBlue Airways flight. The total combined weight of both the cat or dog and its carrier must be 20 lbs or less. Pet carriers must not be larger than 17" long by 12.5" wide by 8.5" tall and must be well ventilated and have a leak proof bottom. The pet must be able to comfortably stand and move around the carrier.

    Pet Fees

    • The fee for pets on board is $100 per pet, each way. This means the fee for a pet on a round-trip flight is $200. However, the standard booking fee is waived for passengers traveling with a pet.

    On-Board Procedures

    • Pets must remain in their carriers at all times on-board JetBlue Airways flights. The carrier must be placed underneath the seat in front of the passenger for the duration for the flight.

    Owner Accompaniment

    • All pets on board must be accompanied by their owners. Each passenger is only permitted to bring one pet per flight, and the pet will count as the passenger's personal carry-on item. Two pets in one carrier is not permitted.

    Required Documents

    • At check-in, passengers traveling with a pet will be required to present the pet's vaccination documentation, identification tags and licenses, and a comfortable carrier for the pet.
