All Ears explains that when Walt Disney World opened in 1971, general admission tickets were only good for entering the park. To enjoy the rides, visitors had to purchase adventure books that allowed access to the attractions. A seven adventure book provided access to seven attractions, and extra tickets could be purchased at each attraction. In June 1982, Walt Disney World eliminated the adventure booklets, and visitors purchased tickets that allowed access to all rides at the parks.
Today Walt Disney World offers a range of ticket options for visitors. The term "Magic Your Way" is used by Disney for the customizable ticket options. Tickets are available for one to 10 days, and annual passes are available for frequent visitors or those visiting for more than 10 days, according to the Walt Disney World Resort. A base ticket allows visitors into one park per day. Disney also offers single day tickets to their water parks and Disney Quest.
In addition to the base ticket option, Walt Disney World Resort explains that several options can be used to personalize the Magic Your Way ticket to meet each family's needs. Tickets can be upgraded to Park Hopper tickets, allowing visitors access to all four parks in one day. Water Park admission and access to Disney Quest, the ESPN World of Sports and Disney's Oak Trail Golf Course are included in tickets that are upgraded to the Water Park Fun and More Option. A no-expiration option also can be added to a base ticket, which typically expires 14 days after the first use. Walt Disney World also periodically offers Florida resident ticket discounts.
