Travel preparations can be a lot of work, particularly when one of your fellow passengers is furry and four-legged. Whether you are moving, going on vacation or visiting relatives, you may find it necessary to bring your pet along on your next flight with Singapore Airlines. Arranging for your pet's transport in advance, as well as abiding by Singapore Airlines rules and regulations, will ensure a smooth flight for the two of you.
Make sure that your pet is permitted on the flight. Singapore Airlines does not allow cats and dogs under 6 months, most birds, pigs, primates, as well as snub-nosed and several other breeds of dogs to travel. Note that permitted animals, with the exception of guide dogs, must travel in the cargo hold and are considered "excess baggage."
Call Singapore Airlines to book your flight and ask about making arrangements for traveling with your pet. Not all Singapore Airlines flights will allow pets aboard, nor is there any guarantee that there will be space for your pet. For your pet's comfort and your convenience, try to book a non-stop flight.
Select a kennel that meets IATA (International Air Transport Association) standards. The kennel must be leak-proof, large enough for your pet to sit, stand and turn and be ventilated on at least three sides. Affix both "Live Animals" and "This Side Up" stickers to the kennel. Attach food and water containers that are accessible from the outside; include feeding instructions.
Allow your pet to become accustomed to the kennel well in advance of your flight. Knowing that the kennel is a safe environment will increase the chances of a comfortable flight for your pet.
Gather the necessary paperwork for your pet. If you are traveling abroad, check your destination country's required documents (see Resources). You will also need health and vaccination certificates from your vet.
Give your pet gets plenty of exercise the day of the flight. Have your pet eat a light meal a couple of hours in advance. Arrive at the airport as close to your flight as possible. Spending too much time at the airport may frighten your pet.
