Purchase kennels constructed of authorized material; normally wood, plastic or metal. Kennels also must be leak- and escape-proof. Doors must fasten securely and the kennels must allow for proper ventilation. A water container should always be included. Collapsible kennels are almost never allowed.
Use kennels that meet airline size specifications. American Airlines, for instance, allows kennels as large as 40 inches long x 27 inches wide x 30 inches high. Most airlines will accept kennels weighing up 100 lbs. with the pet inside.
Check in with your pet(s) at the ticket counter. Most airlines do not allow curbside or self-service check-in when traveling with pets.
