Airports in Hampton County, South Carolina

With a population of 21,386, Hampton County is a small area of 560 square miles in the rural country of South Carolina. While Hampton County does not have an airport capable of accommodating large passenger planes, it does have two smaller airports that service private planes. Hampton County is conveniently near major cities such as Savannah and Charleston, however. Both are about an hour away and provide commercial airports with service all over the country.
  1. Davis Airport, Garnett

    • With an airport identifier of SC12, Davis Airport is a privately owned airport six miles northeast of Garnett. This private-use airport covers seven acres of property. It has two turf runways -- 2,500 feet long by 100 feet -- that can accommodate private planes. Nearby hotels include the Days Inn within about 20 miles of the airport.

    Hampton-Varnville Airport

    • Two of the largest communities in Hampton County include Hampton and Varnville, which are approximately four miles apart. The Hampton-Varnville Airport is just one mile east of the town of Hampton. Carrying the airport identifier of 3J0, this facility is publicly owned by Hampton County and sits on 50 acres of property. It has two asphalt runways both measuring 3,580 feet long and 60 feet wide that can be used by private planes.

    Barnwell Regional Airport, Barnwell

    • Approximately 30 miles from the town of Hampton is the Barnwell Regional Airport. The U.S. Army Air Corps constructed this local airport in 1942, and it was used as a training base during World War II, mainly for B-25 bombers. Its two runways accommodate both recreational and corporate flights, and a certified mechanic is on site for any minor problems that might occur.

    Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport

    • For those needing larger commercial airlines, you will need to travel a bit further out of county. About 50 miles from the outer part of Hampton County and the town of Yemassee is the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport in Savannah, Georgia. This major airport serves customers of Allegiant Air, American Eagle, Continental Airlines, Delta, United Express, and US Airways seven days a week.
