South Florida Airports

Alligator farms, art and children's museums, zoos, beaches and golf courses are among the attractions bringing visitors to south Florida. Tourists can also watch professional baseball, football and basketball, and travel to Key West to see the southernmost point in the United States. Those making travel plans can choose from several south Florida airports.
  1. Miami International Airport

    • More than three dozen airlines bring travelers into Miami International Airport, which has MIA as its airport code. In addition to major domestic airlines, carriers here include Swiss International Air Lines, Iberia, Omni Airlines, Vision Airlines, Caribbean Airlines and British Airways. If you want to rent a car here, you'll find more than a dozen companies in the airport's rental car center. This building is located one mile from the airport, and shuttles take travelers to this location. Public transportation options at the airport include buses, commuter trains and fixed-rail service. Those picking up a passenger at Miami International can do so curbside or use the airport's short-term parking lot. This lot cost $2.50 per half hour in January 2011.

    Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport

    • FLL is the airport code for this destination, which receives both international and domestic flights. Carriers serving Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport include JetBlue, Allegiant Air, Delta, Continental, Air Jamaica and US Airways. The airport's rental car center is reached by shuttle and houses a dozen rental companies. Broward County Transit buses can also take travelers to and from the airport. If you're picking up a passenger at the Fort Lauderdale airport, the cell phone lot offers free parking while you wait for the call that the traveler is ready for curbside pickup. As of January 2011, those choosing an hourly parking lot will pay $1 for each 20 minute increment.

    Palm Beach International Airport

    • Travelers will find 14 carriers at Palm Beach International Airport, which has PBI as its airport code. Airlines flying into this location include Continental, AirTran, Delta, Air Canada, Southwest and JetBlue. You'll find eight car rental companies in the airport's baggage claim area. Palm Tran, the public bus service for Palm Beach County, makes stops at the airport, and a shuttle takes passengers to and from the nearby Tri-Rail commuter train. The airport offers a free cell phone lot where you can wait for arriving passengers. If you choose to park in short-term parking, expect to pay $1 for each 20 minutes your vehicle is there, as of January 2011 rates.

    Key West International Airport

    • Six airlines serve Key West International Airport: American, Continental, Cape Air, Delta, AirTran and US Airways. The airport's code is EYW. Five rental car agencies are located at the airport, which is situated on the northeast end of Key West. The airport provides a free, one-hour parking lot for those dropping off or picking up passengers. There's also a set of free 30-minute spaces in the rental car lot for pickup and dropoff needs. You'll find nine curbside spots outside the arrivals building too, however these are for loading and unloading only.
