How to Find the Nearest Airport to a City

When traveling to a new city, it's always helpful to know where the airport is located in relation to downtown and to your destination. You may be making a quick trip and want the nearest airport to your hotel or business convention, or you may be going on vacation and want to see what options are available to search for the cheapest airfare. Sometimes flying into a smaller nearby airport can save a lot of money. This is one of the first steps in getting your trip off to a good start.

  Navigate to a travel website such as iFly or Travelmath. Choose the option to search for the closet airport and input the city of your choice. You will then be presented with the closet major airport, as well as the closet regional and municipal airports.

  Visit an online map or driving directions website such as Google Maps or Mapquest. Type in the city you are researching and select the option to search airports. The website will then display the closest airports. You will also have the option to input the address of where you will be staying, to display how far the airport is from your location.

  Visit the official tourism website or the chamber of commerce website for the city you are researching. Navigate to the visitors section and select the airports option. This will display the closest airports to major landmarks.
