How to Find the County a City Is Located In

You may need to figure out what county your city or another city lies in for a number or reasons, whether for a court date or to conduct a thorough review of property or other zoning laws. Using the resources provided by your city, such as a municipal website or phone line, you should be able to find out what county the city your are inquiring about is a part of.

      Call your city offices and ask a city employee or official for the name of the county your city is in.

      Check to see if your city has a website with a page listing facts about the town. This may yield the information of what county a city is in. Alternatively, use Black Book Online's City to County Converter (see References).

      Consult a map or atlas that displays county lines and search for your city. Note the county the city lies within.
