Airlines in Hawaii

Hawaii is made up of six different islands: Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Maui and Hawaii's Big Island. Several different airlines are located in Hawaii that make daily trips among the islands. Hawaiian Airlines is a larger airline that also makes transpacific flights. Other airlines, such as Island Air, only make inter-island flights.
  1. Hawaiian Airlines

    • Hawaiian Airlines has been around since 1929, according to its website. The airline is based out of Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii. The airline travels daily to the islands of Lihue, Kahului, Kona and Hilo. The airline also makes non-stop flights to the Western United States to places such as Los Angeles, Oakland, Las Vegas and Seattle. In addition, the airline makes transpacific flights to Australia and Tahiti. As of November 2010, the airline makes 195 daily flights and has 35 aircraft.

    Island Air

    • Island Air, according to its website, is Hawaii's leading regional carrier. The airline serves all major airports on all of the major Hawaiian Islands, such as Maui and Lanai. The airline has been serving Hawaii since 1980 and specializes in inter-island flights. The airline has a fleet of smaller, 37-seat aircraft that operate at lower altitudes than jets do. Riding on one of these aircraft can provide passengers with beautiful views of the Hawaiian scenery that they might not be able to experience on an aircraft at a higher altitude.

    Mokulele Airlines

    • Mokulele Airlines, which is operated by Mesa Airlines, offers inter-island flights between all major Hawaiian airports. The airline offers 100 daily flights that service flights between Kahului, Hololulu, Moloka'I, Kona and Lanai. The airline, as of November 2010, flies two different types of aircraft. One of the aircraft is small and holds a capacity of nine, including crew members. The other aircraft will hold 50 passengers, including crew members.
