Priceline offers an option for naming your own price for car rental reservations, and will accept your bid if they can find a rental car company that will take that price. However, you are required to book if they find a matching price, regardless of the company that you will be required to book through.
According to Priceline.com, they do not allow for cancellations on their Name Your Own Price option. These reservations also cannot be changed. This is a risk that is taken with the Name Your Own Price system, and allows for Priceline to find the lowest rates possible. However, according to former customer service agents for Priceline, a Name Your Own Price car rental option can be canceled and refunded if you call Priceline and claim that you meant to book a one-way car rental instead of a round-trip car rental.
Priceline also offers an option to book a car rental through their published prices. These rates may be higher than their Name Your Own Price option but allow for more flexibility during the booking process. These reservations may be allowed to be cancelled, depending upon the policy presented to the customer at the time of the purchase.
Remember to read the fine print when booking through Priceline to find out whether or not the reservations will be able to be canceled at a later time. In order to verify after the transaction is completed whether or not your rental is cancelable, you will have to visit the "Check Your Request" section on Priceline.com. However, a customer should be able to cancel a car reservation made through their published prices at any time because these reservations are not prepaid and will be paid upon pickup of the car at the car rental agency.
Within 24 hours of making a reservation on Priceline, they offer a price match guarantee for car rentals that will refund the difference in price and give a $50 certificate for future reservations on their Name Your Own Price option or refund your money for their published prices option. In order to qualify, the lower rate must be a car of the same type as purchased through Priceline, and the rental pick-up and drop-off locations must be the same as well.
