How to rent a car in Europe for less

We all know that travel sites are a great place to shop for anything that has to do with your vacation. The only problem is that they tag on their own hefty fees when you book services (especially anything outside the U.S.). Car rentals are most likely the worst offender. The cheapest way to rent a car in Europe is to make sure you always rent the car through a local company.

Novacarhire.com is probably one of the best websites for booking cars in Europe. They offer a huge selection of cars and locations. I spent about an hour going over various price comparisons between them and sites like orbitz.com and Travelocity.com and found that novacarhire.com seems to always some back with prices that are 15-20% cheaper. Also, novacarhire.com gives you a choice of the exact model of car you will be renting, while the others simply give you a category to choose from.

easycar.com is also a very good option, but their locations and model selection are far more limited. But if they do have something for you in a city you need, easycar.com typically comes up another 5-15% cheaper than novacarhire.com

Make sure your driver is over 26. THey will rent you the car if you are younger, but there will be an additional fee. Also, they charge extra for each driver. If you have 3-4 people, only designate 1-2 of them for driving. Adding additional drivers typically adds about $30 to your bill.
