RV Cleaning Tools

Camping in a recreational vehicle, or RVing, is a great way to see the country and enjoy the great outdoors while bringing some of the conveniences of modern life along with you. Maintaining your vehicle requires regular cleaning and maintenance. Cleaning your RV with the right tools protects your investment while keeping it comfortable for your family.
  1. Soft Brush

    • In order to apply the soapy water to clean the RV, you must have something with which to scrub away the dirt and grime. A soft bristled brush is perfect for the job. While hand held models are useful for smaller RVs and tough dirt, brushes on extending poles are better for large RVs and getting to those hard-to-reach corners. Ensure the brush has softer bristles instead of the hard ones that can scratch the paint and sides of an RV if used improperly.

    Quality Cleanser

    • While you may be tempted to throw some dish detergent in a bucket to wash the RV, it is not recommended. Use of a detergent may pull out the oils and protectants in vinyl, plastic and other common materials to RV exteriors meant to keep them from cracking and splitting. RV manufacturers or retailers usually recommend quality cleanser brands formulated specially for cleaning your RV model.

    Wax

    • Even an RV exterior can benefit from a good wax occasionally. When maintaining an RV, keeping the exposed metal, plastic and vinyl protected from the weathering effects of the sun, water exposure, cold and heat is a priority. The use of a good wax designed for use on an RV is essential to maintaining the exterior's integrity as well as keeping the luster and brightness that makes your RV look like it is still brand new.

    Vacuum

    • Maintaining the interior of your RV -- whether it is a motor home to retire and travel the country in or a toy box to haul dune buggies to the campsite -- requires an effective yet easy-to-store vacuum cleaner. Dirt can build up and damage the interior's wood, plastic, vinyl and flooring when not properly maintained. Since space is always at a premium in an RV, a powerful but compact machine is preferable.
