RV Holding Tank Installation

RV holding tanks are used to separate your waste water from fresh water. Holding tanks have three parts: fresh water; gray water, the excess from showering and doing dishes; and black, or waste, water. Installing holding tanks allows you to travel for longer distances without stopping. These tanks can be installed by RV owners.
  1. Preparation

    • To install an RV holding tank you can get a holding tank kit at a camping supplies store. Start by making a sketch of your RV to plan where to install your holding tank. When installing your RV holding tank you will want to place it near the plumbing. The black tank will be placed near the toilet. The gray tank should go in between the shower and sinks and the fresh water tank is best in the middle of your unit.

    Water Pump

    • Mount the water pump, which regulates the amount of fresh water that runs throughout your RV to your sinks and shower. This installation will vary from model to model. Install this near your fresh water plumbing system, either a fresh water tube that directly passes the fresh water to the sink, or a valve you control at the utility area of your RV. The valve gives you more control over the fresh water in your RV along with your water pump.

    Holding Tank

    • Mounting the holding tank will vary from model to model. Drill the tank to the RV in your desired location. Once you drill the holding tank down, connect the water lines to the tank as well as the water pump. Be sure to have the water off during the process. After installation, turn it back on to check for leaking.
