How to Level an RV Door

The entrance door to an RV is one of the most important parts of the vehicle as it keeps the occupants protected from the elements and also protects your possessions inside. Traveling and normal wear and tear can damage the door on your RV over time. Like your home door, continuous opening and closing can cause your door to become uneven and unable to close. You can fix your door yourself with a few household tools.

Instructions

    • 1

Take the molding off the door to determine the source of the door's misalignment. Unscrew the molding with a screwdriver and pull it towards you to remove.

    • 2

Inspect the door frame to see where it has shifted from. Is the door off track at the bottom, top or side? This will help you pinpoint what needs adjusting.

    • 3

Loosen the screws holding the door frame to the RV frame with a screwdriver. The adjustments will be made on the side with the hinges.

    • 4

Use shims to return the frame to square by placing them into the spaces between the door frame and the stud.

    • 5

Tighten the screws with a screwdriver to secure the door frame to the RV's wall. Finish by replacing the molding.
