North Carolina license plates bear the slogan "First in Flight."
On December 17, 1903, at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, the Wright brothers (Orville & Wilbur) achieved the world's first controlled, sustained, powered heavier-than-air flight. Orville's first flight: 120 feet in 12 seconds.
Ohio (birthplace of Wrights) uses "Birthplace of Aviation." North Carolina claims the event; Ohio claims the inventors.
