What happened to the boring machines used build Chunnel?

There were eleven Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) used in the construction of the Chunnel. Here's what happened to them after their use:

1. Eurotunnel TBM: The Eurotunnel TBM, also known as "TBM 1," was used to excavate the first British tunnel from Folkestone to Calais. After completing its tasks, it was dismantled and removed from the tunnel site.

2. Sandringham: Sandringham was the second Eurotunnel TBM and excavated the second British tunnel. Following its use, it was partially dismantled and reassembled in France to begin digging a tunnel beneath the English Channel's seabed. However, the project was canceled in 1994, and Sandringham was left at the site. It remains submerged beneath the channel.

3. Archimedes: Archimedes, TBM 3, was used for part of the tunnel from Calais to Folkestone and then in the service tunnel in France. After completing its tasks, Archimedes was dismantled and removed from the site.

4. Victoria: Victoria, or TBM 4, also known as "La Rance," excavated part of the tunnel from France to England. After the tunnel was completed, Victoria was dismantled and scrapped.

5. Pascal: Pascal, or TBM 5, was used to complete part of the tunnel from England to France and was subsequently disassembled and scrapped.

6. Pelorus: Pelorus, TBM 6, was responsible for the rail tunnels from France to England. Following its usage, Pelorus was dismantled and is believed to have been scrapped.

7. Daisy: Daisy, or TBM 7, was used for service tunnel construction in France and was dismantled after completing its tasks.

8. Phyllis: Phyllis, TBM 8, excavated the French rail tunnels. Like the other TBMs, it was dismantled post-construction and was likely scrapped.

9. Helen: Helen, TBM 9, excavated the French service tunnels. After the completion of its work, it was dismantled and scrapped.

10. Penelope: Penelope, TBM 10, was utilized in the construction of French service tunnels. Similar to the other machines, it was dismantled and dismantled and believed to have been scrapped.

11. Esther: Esther, TBM 11, was another service tunnel excavator in France. After completing its tasks, Esther was dismantled and possibly scrapped.

Most of the TBMs were dismantled and scrapped during the Chunnel's construction or shortly after its completion. However, Sandringham remains partially submerged beneath the English Channel.
