When was the first train in west Bengal started?
The first train in West Bengal, then a part of British India, was started on 15 August 1854. It ran from Howrah to Hooghly, a distance of about 35 kilometers. The train was operated by the East Indian Railway Company, which was formed in 1845. The company built the first railway line in India, from Bombay to Thane, in 1853. The Howrah-Hooghly line was the second railway line in India.
