One of the most scenic train tours in Pennsylvania -- especially in the fall -- is aboard the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway, located in Jim Thorpe. The area is called the Switzerland of America for its steep hillsides, narrow roads and breathtaking scenery along the Lehigh River. The train's old-style passenger coaches date from the 1920s. The tour lasts about one hour, round trip, and covers 16 miles on the former main line of the Jersey Central Lines.

The 3/4-mile-long ride weaves along the side of Mahanoy Mountain on narrow-gauge track and lasts about 30 minutes. The Pioneer Tunnel offers a special price for admission to both attractions.
