Visitors to Seattle can take advantage of Sound Transit's local services, which are ideal for sightseeing on foot. Passengers can hop on and off trains at stations conveniently located for tourist spots such as Chinatown.
Sound Transit's Central Link line runs from Westlake, north of downtown, to Seattle Tacoma International Airport, south of downtown. Trains stop at University Street, Pioneer Square, International District/Chinatown, Stadium, SODO, Beacon Hill, Mount Baker, Columbia City, Othello, Rainier Beach, and Tukwila International Boulevard. A ride along the entire line takes approximately 37 minutes, and trains run every 10 to 15 minutes from 5 a.m. through midnight. A one-way fare costs between $1.75 and $2.50, depending how far you want to ride. Seniors and young people receive discounted fares.
Sound Transit's Tacoma Link runs from Tacoma Dome Station at South 25th Street north to the Theater District, stopping at South 25th, Union Station, and the Convention Center. A ride along the entire line takes 12 minutes, and trains run every 10 to 20 minutes from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Rides along the Tacoma Link are free of charge.

The nation's first full-scale, commercial monorail system, the Seattle Center Monorail serves the Seattle Center, home of the Space Needle, and takes riders to Westlake Center Mall. The monorail, which has been in service since the 1962 World's Fair, is privately owned. The route is one mile long, and the ride takes two minutes. The round-trip fare is $4.
