Click on the first link listed in the 'Resources' section, which will automatically redirect you to Google Maps.
Press the 'Get Directions' link on the left-hand side of the page. Input the city (or specific address) of your starting point on the first line, next to the 'A' button. Input the town of your arrival destination on the second line, next to the 'B' button.
Click on the 'Get Directions' button to view the driving or public transportation directions. Select one of the suggested routes to view the travel time, followed by the distance in miles.
Place a straightedge ruler between the two points representing the cities. Mark the locations of the cities on your ruler with a pencil.
Position the ruler just under the zero of the bar scale. Read the ground distance in miles.
Measure of the first 4,000 meters and place a new tick mark at the point on your ruler, if the distance is greater than that of the scale. Repeat the process until you have determined the distance between the two cities.
Click on the second link listed in the 'Resources' section, which will automatically redirect you to Mapquest.
Click on the link 'Get Directions'. Input a starting city and state into line 'A'. Type in an arrival city and state into line 'B'. Press the button 'Get Directions'.
Select from one of three suggested routes, which contain the distance in miles below their titles. Adjust your route and travel distance by dragging the route line with your computer mouse.
