The Walt Whitman Bridge spans the Delaware River between South Philadelphia and Gloucester City, N.J. It is the world's 27th longest bridge. When it opened in 1957, the toll was 25 cents. Those days may be gone, but senior citizens can still receive a substantial discount to cross the bridge.

Bridge
- The Walt Whitman Bridge is a suspension bridge with seven traffic lanes. The part of it suspended from cables weighs 36,500 tons. Construction started in 1953, and the bridge opened to traffic in 1957. It is owned by the Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA).
Toll
- The standard toll for passenger vehicles, motorcycles, sport utility vehicles and trucks up to 7,000 lbs. is $4, cash only. Only passenger vehicles are eligible for the senior discount.
Considerations
- Senior citizens, those 65 and older, can participate in the DRPA's Senior Discount Program through the E-ZPass program.
