The Super Duck Tours Company operates from March to December each year. Tours depart from the Charlestown Navy Yard six times daily, more often during the summer season and weekends. Each Super Duck tour is approximately 90 minutes long. All Super Ducks tour drivers, or "captains" are licensed Maritime Masters with Commercial Drivers License (CDL). Each tour is staffed by both a captain and a "mate."
Super Duck Tour vehicles are available for private charter rental for weddings, meetings, business outings and parties. Chartered Tours can vary from the companies normal tour route and be specifically designed to cater transportation to events and functions.
The company transports guests on "Hydra-Terra" amphibious vehicles manufactured by the C.A.M.I. corporation of Ridgeland, South Carolina. The company's name is an acronym for "Cool Amphibious Manufacturers International." The Hydra Terra is one of five amphibious vehicles built by the firm.
The first amphibious tour in the city was the similarly named Boston Duck Tours, founded in 1997. Boston Duck Tours transports guests in modified World War II era Jeep Cherokees. The company is still in operation in Boston. Boston Duck Tours sued Super Duck Tours in 2007 over copyright infringement. The suit is still pending.
