Grilling on Coney Island Beach? Not Allowed—Use Designated BBQ Areas Instead

Grilling is prohibited on Coney Island Beach itself. NYC Parks rules ban open fires, charcoal, and propane grills on all beaches.

Designated BBQ Areas (Permitted):

  • Near Stillwell Avenue (west end, by the subway terminal).
  • Near West 23rd Street (east end, beside the Parachute Jump landmark).

Rules for Designated Areas:

  • Charcoal only (no propane).
  • Provide own grill (no built-ins).
  • Dispose coals in metal bins (not sand/trash).
  • Clean area after.
  • Permit required for groups >20 (NYC Parks).

Alternatives: Coney Island Creek Park (kayak launch, no grill), Kaiser Park (grills, permits), or private backyard/rooftop.

Enjoy the boardwalk, Cyclone, Nathan's—but keep the grill in the right spot.
