"Except for possible roof problems, the yurt is essentially maintenance-free," according to the Appalachia: Science in the Public Interest website. This makes the yurt an attractive option for parks and campgrounds where maintenance fees are a concern. The yurts in Golden Gate Canyon State Park are available to campers year-round, with propane heat available for winter campers.
Located to the north of the Rio Grande National Forest, Ridgway State Park offers campers year-round camping. Ridgway has three campgrounds to choose from: Dakota Terraces, Elk Ridge and Pa-Co-Chu-Puk. Three yurts are available for rent at the Elk Ridge Campground, located in the area of the park known as "Dutch Charlie." The Ridgway yurt is designed for comfort, with windows and a fan for summer use and and a fireplace for winter.
The three yurts at Sylvan Lake are available for rent May through November. The rental fee includes many amenities, such as a bear-proof storage locker, picnic table, fire ring, grill, futons, bunk beds, and dining table and chairs. Campers with pets can rent Yurt #3 for an additional fee.
