Camping in Duluth, Minnesota

Situated on the shores of the western tip of Lake Superior, Duluth is a vital port city; its harbor welcomes approximately 1,000 freighters each year. Its location on Lake Superior attracts many anglers and campers, and there are a number of campgrounds in the area to accommodate them.

    • Lovers of the outdoors will find many places to set up camp in Duluth, including the Buffalo Valley Campground, located a 10-minute drive from downtown; the Fond du Lac Campground and Boat Landing on the St. Louis River; and the Indian Point Campground, which is also located on the St. Louis River and offers guided boat rides to visitors.

    • Campgrounds in Duluth offer the standard facilities, including restrooms, showers and hook-ups to water, electricity and sewer. Internet access, fire pits, horseshoe pits, boat ramps and piers are also available at some.

    • Some campgrounds take reservations and others do not. Most sites offer daily, weekly and monthly rates. As of 2010, the fees vary from $15 to $34 per night, depending on the campground and type of hook-up desired.
