State & Federal RV Parks Near Tampa, Florida

Tampa is located in the middle of Florida's Gulf Coast. It's nearly surrounded by water, with Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico to the west and the Hillsborough River to the east. Tampa may be known for its city attractions, but just outside the city lie parks filled with true Florida natives: crocodiles, egrets, pelicans and fish. Many of these state parks include RV facilities.
  1. Little Manatee State Park

    • This park, about 30 minutes from Tampa, sits on the banks of Little Manatee River and features fishing, hiking, horseback riding and camping. In fact, 12 miles of trails are reserved for horseback riding and four campsites are designated for people traveling with horses. Other attractions include picnic tables, grilling areas, pavilions, canoeing, kayaking and a playground.

      The RV campsites have full hookups, and all sites have water and electricity. Other site features include picnic tables, showers, restrooms, a laundry room and a fire pit. Two sites are reserved for people with disabilities. All RV sites are well-shaded for privacy protection. Leashed pets are allowed in the RV park and the park at large. The park can accommodate RVs up to 68 feet long.

    Fort De Soto Campground

    • This campground, about 30 minutes from Tampa, features both waterfront and standard RV sites. All RV sites have water, electric, 30- and 50-amp electrical service, grills and picnic tables. The campground has 236 sites, but the first 85 are designated for vans, tents or pop-up campers. Other features include a waste station, restrooms, showers, a laundry room and a convenience store.

      Travelers with pets are restricted to sites in a certain area. Some spots are for walk-in guests and cannot be reserved in advance, and reservations may be made for a maximum of 14 days. Attractions include the fort itself, which was built in the 1800s, and beaches, bird watching, reefs and hiking trails.

    Hillsborough River State Park

    • This park is about 20 minutes from downtown Tampa. Visitors can relax on the shores of the Hillsborough River or explore Fort Foster, a replica of a fort that dates back to the Second Seminole War in the 1800s. Other activities include kayaking, fishing, hiking, canoeing, picnicking and bicycling. The campground has over 100 sites, and most come with electric service. All have picnic tables, water and a fire pit. Other campground amenities include a waste station, convenience store, restrooms, showers and swimming. A youth camping area can accommodate 60 people.
