Six state parks from Iowa City to Council Bluffs allow camping near I-80; reservations can be made for half of all state park camping sites, with the other half filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Lake MacBride State Park in Solon, near Iowa City, has a modern unit offering 38 electrical hookup and 10 full hookup sites with modern showers, restrooms and a dump station. Rock Creek State Park is in central Iowa near Newton; it has 200 camping sites, 101 of which have electrical hookups. Walnut Woods State Park is also in Central Iowa west of Des Moines, offering 22 campsites--eight with full and 13 with electrical hookups; modern restrooms and an RV dump station. Lake Anita State Park on the west side of Iowa offers 161 sites--52 with electrical and 40 with full hookups--and two modern shower and restroom buildings. Prairie Rose State Park is also in Western Iowa, offering 95 camping sites that either have electrical or full hookups. Finally, Lake Manawa State Park in Council Bluffs on Iowa's western edge has 72 campsites--more than half of which have electrical hookups, modern showers, restrooms and a dump station. All of these parks except Walnut Woods are located on lakes; Walnut Woods is located on a river.
Scott County is the easternmost county in Iowa along I-80 and offers two camping options for RVs. Scott County Park is located north of I-80 a few miles off of US Highway 61, and West Lake Park is adjacent to the I-280 bypass loop around the Quad Cities. Just west of Scott County is Cedar County, where Cedar Valley Park near Tipton offers campsites with electrical hookups. Johnson County near Tiffin east of Iowa City offers camping at F.W. Kent Park and at the 40-acre Hills Access Park near Hills, Iowa. Lake Iowa Park in Iowa County offers 120 rocked pads with electrical hookups, showers and a dump station just off I-80 toward Millersburg.
Diamond Lake Park in Poweshiek County near Montezuma offers electrical hookup camping. Jasper County by Baxter is home to Ashton Wildwood Park, which offers camping and contains an astronomical observatory. Polk County, where Iowa's capital of Des Moines is located, offers several camping options for RVs, including Thomas Mitchell Park by Mitchellville, Yellow Banks Park, Lewis A. Jester Park by Saylorville Lake and Chichaqua Bottoms Greenbelt.
In Adair County near Orient, Iowa, camping is available at Lake Orient Recreation Area and near Bridgewater at Mormon Trail Park. Further west, Guthrie County's Nations Bridge Park by Stuart offers camping with electric hookups, water, toilets, showers and a dump station. Cass County offers two camping options at Cocklin Fish Farm by Griswold and Cold Springs Park by Lewis. Littlefield Recreation Area in Audubon County by Exira has three campgrounds with 88 sites, all with electrical hookups. Finally, in the westernmost county in Iowa on I-80, Pottawattamie, Arrowhead Park near Neola, Black Bird Marsh near Council Bluffs and Botna Bend Park offer camping for RVs.
