Conroe, Texas Camping

Campers can go just north of Houston, Texas for a relaxing urban retreat in Conroe. The town has a large recreational lake, piney woods and several campgrounds to pick from. There are conveniently located grocery stores nearby for all the supplies needed and places to rent camping space, boats and recreational water vehicles.
  1. Recreational Vehicle Sites

    • If you have your own recreational vehicle, there are several sites around Lake Conroe where you can park your vehicle and relax with nature. Castaways RV Park, Convenience RV Park, Lake Conroe KOA, Lochness RV Park, Stow-A-Way Marina, Sunset Shores RV Park, Wild Country RV Park and Willis RV Park all have sites near Lake Conroe, where you will have access to the water and the woods. Most parks charge a small fee for electrical hook-ups and have supply stores and laundry facilities on site.

    Sam Houston National Forest Camping

    • If you prefer to camp in a tent, consider visiting the Sam Houston National Forest. It's one of four national forests in Texas and contains 163,037 acres, according to the Lake Conroe website. In the forest, there are three separate camping areas. The Cagle Recreation Area is on the shore of Lake Conroe and includes a boat ramp, parking area, showers, trails and picnic areas.     • Camping in Conroe is most comfortable in Spring and Fall, when temperatures are most comfortable. In Summer months, afternoon high temperatures can sore above 100 degrees and humidity can also be high.     Rules for Camping

    • Conroe campgrounds have rules to protect other campers, according to the Lake Conroe website. Campers must pay fees, limit their stay to two weeks or less, keep their site to the designated limit and park in designated areas. Fireworks are not permitted and fires must be built only in designated areas. In the national forest camping areas, open alcoholic beverages are not allowed in beaches, parking lots or boat ramps. Other general rules apply. Fighting, public nudity and discharging firearms is prohibited.
