Canyon Lake, Texas Camping

Canyon Lake is located about halfway between Austin and San Antonio, Texas. The lake covers more than 8,000 acres and offers visitors eight campgrounds, boat ramps and a yacht club. In addition to Canyon Lake, the Guadalupe River that runs through the city is a popular attraction. The river has outdoor outfitters along its banks that rent equipment to help visitors enjoy a day of floating.
  1. Canyon Falls RV Park

    • Canyon Falls RV Park is located less than a quarter-mile from Canyon Lake. The park features 60 RV sites with full electric, water and sewer connections. The park also has primitive tent sites with no electricity or water. Canyon Falls RV Park has a creek that runs through the facility and two fishing ponds. The park includes bath, shower and laundry facilities, horseback riding, hiking trails and a playground. A recreation center is located in the center of the campground for games, dancing and movies.

    Creek Hollow RV Park

    • Creek Hollow RV Park is located less than five miles from Canyon Lake. The park has 25 tent and RV sites with full electric, water and sewer connections. Creek Hollow RV Park includes bath, shower and laundry facilities, an outdoor swimming pool, a hot tub and a recreation facility. The park also features cabins for guests without RVs or tents. Creek Hollow is less than a 10-minute drive from Canyon Lake and the Guadalupe River.

    Potter's Creek Park

    • Located on Canyon Lake, Potter's Creek Park features more than 100 tent and RV campsites with full electric and water connections. Campers at Potter's Creek Park can walk to Canyon Lake for swimming, boating and fishing activities. The park offers campers bath, shower and laundry facilities, a playground and hiking trails. Guests at Potter's Creek Park can fish on the fishing pier, and the park has a man-made beach on the lake for swimming and picnic activities.

    • Camping in Canyon Lake, Texas, is relatively cool, even during the warmer summer months. Canyon Lake's average high temperatures during the summer months of June through September are in the high 70s and low 80s. Camping in Canyon Lake during the winter also brings mild temperatures, as the coldest month of January averages around 45 degrees. Campers who visit Canyon Lake during June and July need to have umbrellas, as the area averages almost 12 inches of rainfall each of those two months.

    • Water is at the heart of the attractions in Canyon Lake. The lake and the nearby Guadalupe River offer visitors boating, fishing, sailing, water skiing, and rafting activities. The Canyon Lake Dam and the Canyon Lake Gorge near the lake have hiking trails for outdoor enthusiasts. The Guadalupe River near Canyon Lake is famous for its whitewater rafting and tubing trips. Guests can spend a few hours or all day floating down the Guadalupe River.
