Hostels in Madrid, Spain

Travelers on a budget or in search of the backpacking scene have plenty of hostel options in Madrid, a city that Let's Go describes as: "Spain's political, intellectual, and cultural center--the country's wild, pulsing heart."
  1. HI-Affiliated

    • The Richard Schirrmann, Santa Cruz de Marcenado and San Fermin youth hostels have Hostelling International (HI) affiliation, meaning they have met the organization's standards for comfort, cleanliness and security.

    Centrally Located

    • Los Amigos Sol, three blocks from the Puerta del Sol, and Hostal Cruz Sol, a stone's throw from the Plaza Mayor central square, are among the best-located hostels in Madrid. Other options in the city center include Hostal Luis XV, Hostel Metropol and Los Amigos Opera.

    Fun Times

    • Party people will like Cat's Hostel, whose website says is "exclusively for young people who are up for a good time." It has two bars and hosts regular DJ parties. Mad Hostel, run by the same folks, has a similar vibe.

    Hostels With History

    • Hostal San Lorenzo maintains many of the original features of its 19th-century building (like stone walls and wood beams). Cat's Hostel is set in a restored 17th-century mansion with a fabulous courtyard.

    Long Stays

    • Hostal Madrid is a hostel that also rents out inexpensive apartments, many with nice views.
