Tropical Disney Vacation Campgrounds in Florida

Next time you start planning a Walt Disney World vacation, consider staying at one of the campgrounds instead of an expensive hotel. Florida is known for its year round desirable climate, making camping options available anytime. The campsites, located within Kissimme and Lake Buena Vista, offer many of the same benefits of staying at the hotels like shopping and activities for children within walking distance of the grounds.
  1. Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort

    • Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort is at 4510 North Fort Wilderness Trail in

      Lake Buena Vista. The campground opened in 1971 and covers 750 acres of land. Each site is designed with privacy landscaping, picnic tables and charcoal grills. Cabins are available for those who aren't ready to rough it yet on a campsite. Mickey's Backyard BBQ offers character dining at the Fort Wilderness Pavilion. The camp shows movies for children with marshmallow roasting and sing-a-longs. Four types of campsites are available at the resort. All sites accommodate up to 10 guests and include water, cable, electricity, sewer and wireless Internet (for an additional charge). Tent, pop-up camper, RV and motor home sites are available and as of January 2011, prices range from $76 per night for a premium campsites down to $46 per night for the pop-up sites. Rates do change seasonally, so visit the website or call the campgrounds directly for current rates.

    Orange Grove Campground

    • The Orange Grove Campground is at 2425 Old Vineland Road in Kissimmee. Sites accommodate RVs, motor homes, pop-up campers and tents. The camp has paved roads, electricity, wireless Internet, concrete patios and picnic tables. On site pool, laundry facility, telephone, mini-golf and playground are available as well. The camp is close to all the Walt Disney World parks and within walking distance from restaurants, shopping and bakeries. You can make reservations online through the campground website and rates vary seasonally. Summer rates from April 1 through October 31, 2011, run $38 per night or $229 per week for an RV site and $28 per night or $169 per week for a tent site. Winter rates from November 1 through March 31 run $45 a day and $265 per week for an RV site and $32 per day and $195 per week for a tent site. Special rates are available for those wanting an extended stay.

    The Tropical Palms Resort

    • The Tropical Palms Resort is at 2650 Holiday Trail in Kissimmee. Located five miles away from Walt Disney World, this campground offers vacation home rentals, vacation cottages and 400 RV sites. The sites range from premium pull-through sites to economy back-in sites. Rates change seasonally and from May 1 to October 31 run from $30 per day to $55 per day. During high season, November 1 to April 30, rates run from $45 to $75 per day. Options are available for extended stays.     Great Oak RV Resort

    • The Great Oak RV Resort is at 4440 Yowell Road in Kissimmee. This campground includes 196 full hook-up sites as well as 10 pull-through sites. Cable and Internet are not available at this campsite. Trailer rentals are available for those who don't have a camper. The resort has a pool and plans seasonal games and activities, so whether or not you plan on visiting the Walt Disney World parks, there is something to do here daily.
