Moffat, Colorado, was once an important trading town and had a population of 2,500. Today, the tiny south central Colorado town has 122 residents. Visitors come to the Sangre de Christo Mountains and to make trips to nearby Joyful Journeys hot springs.
White Eagle is Moffat's only real hotel. It offers guests a choice between affordable, but basic dormitory beds with three to a room or rooms with two queen beds and private baths. White Eagle allows guests to use the communal kitchen to store and prepare food. Massage and acupuncture treatments are available. The hotel also features the work of local artists. As of January 2011, private rooms cost $69 a night and dormitory rooms cost $25 a night.
In 1910, it was known as the Forbes Hotel. After a major renovation and an identity adjustment, the building has reemerged as the Willow Spring Bed and Breakfast. Guests can choose from rooms with one double, one king or two twin sized beds. All rooms have lavatories, but share baths. Full breakfasts are included in the nightly rates. As of January 2011, rates are $50 for twin bed rooms, $65 for queen and $75 for king. Children are welcome. Pets are not allowed.
The Sangre de Cristo Inn is 13 miles from Moffat in Crestone. The inn offers four rooms with king beds and four with two queens. All rooms have private bathrooms and coffee makers. Two rooms accommodate pets. Children under 18 stay free. Room rates are available by request, but according to the hotel, range from $74 to $84, as of January 2011.
The Silver Star Bed and Breakfast, also in Crestone, lodges up to 15 people. Silver Star attempts to deliver "homey" touches with a common room equipped with sink, refrigerator and microwave, as well as a social sitting area. Guests have a private entrance. As of January 2011, rates were $45 a night for single rooms and $55 a night for doubles.
