Paris Landing is near the south end of Kentucky Lake, just across the state line in Tennessee. Kentucky Lake was created when the Tennessee River was dammed in 1944 to create an electricity producing facility. The area is now a recreational area on what was the largest lake in the nation at the time. Outdoor recreational opportunities abound, and there are many types of accommodations available.
At Paris Landing State Park you can still sleep in luxury while you are roughing it with Mother Nature. The Park Inn has 130 rooms, most of which have private balconies overlooking the lake. In addition to standard rooms, one and two-bedroom suites are available. The suites have a separate sitting area, microwave and refrigerator. The inn has an outdoor pool, fitness center, and a gift shop. The State Park also has 10 cabins available, and two large campgrounds. This hotel has a restaurant.
The Fishtale Lodge at nearby Buchanan, Tennessee, is a relatively small facility on Kentucky Lake about a mile from Paris Landing. It has 19 standard rooms, two of which have extra room and extra beds. There are seven cabins, from one to three bedrooms, and there are four duplexes, which have kitchenettes. There are four golf courses in the immediate area, a full service marina and many antique shops around. This facility also has a museum of antique cars. Next door is Meo Mio's Cajun and Seafood restaurant.
If you want something a little more on the luxurious side, there is the Hampton Inn in nearby Paris, Tennessee. This hotel has about 100 rooms, and there are some room accessible for handicapped persons. Suites have a sleeper sofa or a recliner and a kitchenette. This hotel is 12 miles from the lake and Paris Landing, and one mile from Paris and many antique malls. Nearby is the Fresh Market Restaurant, specializing in local cuisine, and Tom's Steakhouse and Pizza, known for its spicy sirloin.
Paris Landing is a small area on the lake, and it is the center for outdoor recreation in the area. Across the lake is the Land Between the Lakes, a 50-mile long and 10-mile wide stretch of protected forest, and further down the lake is the Big Sandy Unit Wildlife Refuge. Many businesses in the area cater to tourists on the lake, so there are many restaurants, boating facilities, rentals and lodging available. The town of Paris is 15 miles west of the lake, and is an older town with an historic courthouse and square downtown, and it is known for its antique shops. Paris is the host of the World's Largest Fish Fry each April.
