Silver Point, Tennessee, is an hour drive east of Nashville and has a population of about 1,500. The area is known for its temperate climate and long season for outdoor activities at nearby Center Hill Lake, Edgar Evins State Park and Burgess Falls State Park.     • You can stay in a modern, six-building lodge in Edgar Evins State Park. The lodge's one-bedroom suites can accommodate six adults and are completely equipped with linens, appliances and cooking and serving utensils. Each suite has two double beds in the bedroom and a sofa sleeper in the living room. There is a small swimming pool on-site for guest use and some suites are pet-friendly. Edgar Evins State Park's 6,000 acres border Center Hill Lake so you can enjoy water sports as well as hike and watch wildlife. The park is known for its birdwatching where you may spot three different owl species, wintering bald eagles and the rare Cerulean Warbler. Climb up the park's observation tower at the visitor center for views of the lake and forest.

    Timber Ridge Inn

    • The Timber Ridge Inn is in the midst of 25 wooded acres next to Center Hill Lake and is three miles to a boat launch and swimming area. Suites in the timbered barn-style building, are equipped with hot tubs, gas fireplaces, and fully-furnished kitchens. Beds are queen- or king-size and all suites have views of the surrounding countryside. You can cruise Center Hill Lake for the day on a luxury house boat (see Resources) or swim at one of three beaches on the lake.

    • Cookeville, a city of about 24,000, according to the 2000 U.S. Census, is about 16 miles east from Silver Point and offers a wide variety of accommodations. Hotel chains with properties in Cookeville include: Comfort Suites, Country Inn & Suites, Hampton Inn Hotels, Baymont Inn & Suites, La Quinta Inn & Suites, Clarion Inn Hotel, Key West Inn and the Holiday Inn. There are also a number of bed and breakfasts and motels from which to choose. Visitors to Cookeville are minutes from a number of top-rated golf courses, lakes, rivers, hiking, championship fishing, hunting and a variety of sports. You can take in a concert in winter, as according to the Cookeville Chamber of Commerce's website, it's one of the smallest cities in the U.S. with a complete symphony orchestra.
