Wellfleet, Massachusetts Area Boutique Hotels

Cape Cod, a peninsula in southeastern Massachusetts, has a 65-mile sandy stretch that hooks into the Atlantic Ocean at the lower tip. The Cape attracts nearly 6 million tourists per year. The fishing and artist village of Wellfleet is on the Outer Cape where there are fewer high-rises or amusement arcades and more long stretches of sandy beach and dune grass. On Commercial Street in Wellfleet, visit the tidal flats at Pleasant Point Town Landing or cross Uncle Tim's Bridge, a boardwalk over a tidal marsh near the harbor. Commercial Street has shops and local artist studios. The town is near Cape Cod National Seashore Beaches and some of the Cape's most enticing swimming holes.

  1. The Inn at Duck Creeke

    • The Inn at Duck Creeke is off Route 6 and it is a 15-minute walk from the Wellfleet Center and a ½-hour walk to the harbor. Originally built in the 1800s, The Inn at Duck Creeke is now a four-building historic complex on five acres of land that overlooks a salt marsh. The Captain's House, built in the 1880s, has basic rooms, some of which require guests to share bathrooms. The Carriage House, the newest building at the inn, was converted from a stable in the 1970s. The Saltworks building is the oldest lodging house with smaller, cottage-type rooms. The onsite seafood restaurant, Sweet Seasons, is the more pricey option, while the onsite, Duck Creeke Tavern offers less expensive food options. During the summer season, the Tavern hosts piano, jazz and blues ensembles on special nights.

    The Holden Inn

    • The Holden Inn, located directly in town on the bay side, was originally a cottage and it has been operating in Wellfleet since 1924. Additions to the cottage have been made as the years pass, and now The Holden Inn offers an array of accommodations from guestrooms in the cottage to rooms in a separate lodge that offer a more casual experience. Walk less than a minute to the Town Pier, Mayo Beach or Mac's Seafood Market Grill or stroll in the other direction on Commercial to visit the town's many artist studios and eateries, such as the Harmon Gallery and Mac's Shack.

    • Located less than a 15-minute drive down Route 6 in nearby Eastham, the Penny House Inn and Day Spa is a 17th century sea captain's home that has been renovated and updated.
