Frankfort, located in central Kentucky's Bluegrass Region, is the state capital, and offers hotel accommodations in its downtown area and off Interstate 64. Although it is not as large as its in-state counterparts, Lexington and Louisville, Frankfort provides tourists with chances to see historical sites, including the Zeigler House, the only Kentucky home designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The hotel is within walking distance of dining in the downtown area on Broadway and Main Street. The Kentucky State Capital building is only a five-minute walk from the hotel, but hotel guests can take the Downtown Frankfort Trolley, which expedites trips to downtown attractions. The trolley is free of charge and runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., as of fall 2010. Fort Hill Park is only a 10-minute walk from the hotel, and this recreation area offers paths along the Kentucky River and ruins from two Confederate forts from the Civil War.
The Bluegrass Inn in eastern Frankfort is a 15-minute drive from downtown Frankfort, and less than a mile from the intersection of the Leestown Pike and Versailles Road. Off-site eateries is within five minutes of the hotel on Versailles, which includes fast food joints and local Mexican restaurants. The nine-hole golf course at the Lakeview Springs municipal golf course on the Kentucky River; the course is suited for novice golfers.
The inn offers reasonable room rates starting at $54 per night, as of fall 2010. AAA and AARP members receive discounts of up to 15 percent. The lobby area and guest rooms have modern, simplistic furniture and décor. Other hotel features include an outdoor swimming pool, RV parking and pets may stay for an extra fee. Guest rooms have microwaves and refrigerators.
Situated in southeastern Frankfort, this Best Western has the appearance of southern Antebellum home with large white columns and a manicured lawn at the hotel's front entrance; however, the lobby area and guest rooms have modern décor and furniture. On-site recreational and exercise opportunities are available at the hotel's fitness center and outdoor and indoor swimming pools. Pets may stay for an extra fee. All of the ground level rooms have indoor and outdoor entrances.
The hotel is right off Interstate 64, making a day trip to Lexington approximately 30 minutes. Lexington, one of the largest cities in Kentucky, offers attractions such as horse racing at the Kenneland Race Course and the University of Kentucky campus. The Best Western is a 15-minute drive from historic attractions in downtown Frankfort, including the 19th century Good Shepherd Catholic Church and Buffalo Trace whiskey distillery. Both sites are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
